Our Company |
Joan Ging has been with Turtle Island Web Design since 1998. In 1995 she created her first personal web site and since then has been increasing her knowledge and skills in the areas of Web design, e-commerce, information architecture, and Internet accessibility.
Joan has always been interested in media forms that help people learn and communicate. Besides graphical design, Joan has been involved in other arts, including theater, music, and creative writing. She believes each business has a unique message and works to help clients get that message across clearly, and in their own personal style. Joan is adept at developing graphical looks for web sites that also incorporate good usability. She is an experienced Flash (Shockwave) designer, and is skilled at producing custom images with professional graphics software.
Joan was able to get a jump-start on her work experience at an early age when her mother (Turtle Island Web Design's founder, Nancy Ging) launched a previous business, a retail bookstore. At age 10, Joan spent several hours a week running the cash register, thoroughly enjoying helping customers find what they were looking for. Nancy taught her daughter the importance of being fully educated on whatever product or service you offer your customers so that you can help them feel confident about their purchase. This approach has been especially useful in Joan's work as a Web designer. Helping a client feel confident about the appearance and effectiveness of their Web site is very important to her.
Joan enjoys researching new technologies, and is balancing out her graphics skills by adding some programming to her repertoire. At present she is studying XML (Extensible Markup Language), Perl scripting, and JavaScript. She also keeps current on Web accessibility, studying the latest techniques for making Web pages accessible to everyone, including those with handicaps and/or less advanced technologies. She has also attended training sessions on e-commerce in order to help businesses everywhere participate in the growing venue of online sales.
