Whether or not a product database will be required depends on how many products you are selling and how often product information will change. Even if you only have a few products but the details (price, styles, etc.) change often, a database may be a useful tool. We can configure a database to allow you to go to a password protected web page and update your product information easily using any web browser.
If you have an existing database of products, we will work with you to develop a web-compatible system for putting it online and updating it regularly. We'll help you choose an appropriate technology for formatting the product information into web pages for your online catalog. MySQL, Cold Fusion, perl and PHP are some of the possibilities.
Shopping Cart Software
Shopping cart software allows your customers to select items and options such as color and size as they browse your online catalog. The software keeps track of the items selected, calculates price totals, gives your customer a chance to make final adjustments, and may also calculate shipping, sales tax, and foreign currency conversions. There are many software packages to choose from, and we will make recommendations based on your products, business practices, and budget. We usually suggest software that we can customize to your exact specifications. (Some software licenses do not allow customizing.) Well-designed shopping cart software can make the difference between an efficient sale or an error-filled, annoying experience that keeps your customers from coming back.
Order Fulfillment and Inventory
If your business is entirely web-based, we can help you develop backend software for managing orders, backorders, and inventory. Some standard software packages are available, or we can develop custom applications. If you want to outsource your order fulfillment, we can also recommend providers on a consulting basis.
If you already have order or inventory management tools, we may or may not be able to integrate your web sales directly. It depends on the software you use, how familiar we are with it, and how easily it interacts with web technologies. If we can't do the job ourselves, we can try to find companies for outsourcing the work on a consulting basis. Contact us to discuss the details of what you want to do.
